Winnebago Industries Through the Years

Winnebago Industries has a rich heritage of creating new and innovative solutions that connects people to the outdoors — and each other.

1958:

Just a few short weeks after launching—with only 17 employees—we rolled out the groundbreaking 15-foot Aljo trailer, retailing at $895.

1960:

Modernistic Industries officially changed its name to Winnebago Industries, after the river that flows through Forest City, Iowa, where our company was born.

1967:

The first-ever Winnebago motorhome model, the F17, debuted. The new assembly line-based production meant motorhomes could reach the marketplace at roughly half the price.

1970:

Winnebago Industries went public as WGO on the New York Stock Exchange. Within a year, WGO became the top performer, with a return of 470%.

1975:

Inspired by our culture of adventure, we expanded into new product and business ventures, including Super Trams, buses, farm wagons, helicopters and introduced the all-new Itasca motorhome line.

1980:

Focusing on fuel efficiency and streamlined styling, we introduced an array of iconic new models.

1986:

We celebrated our 30th anniversary, our 200,000th unit, and an appearance on the Fortune 500--10th in innovation.

1991:

The Rialta and Vectra made their debuts.

1998:

Winnebago Industries hit a trifecta of milestones: Our 40th anniversary, our 300,000th unit, and record revenue.

2001:

Winnebago Industries topped both the Class C and Class A sales charts for the first time in 20 years.

2004:

We hit annual sales of $1.1 billion for the first time in our history, and were named “most-admired RV manufacturer” in an RV Business poll.

2016:

WGO purchased Grand Design RV for $500 million, reaching more customers in the towable market.

2018:

In a bold step—or dive—into the marine industry, WGO acquired premium boat-builder, Chris-Craft.

2019:

Another exciting acquisition expanded our customer base as motorhome manufacturer of luxury RVs Newmar Corporation, joined our family of brands.

2021:

We make a bigger splash on the water. WGO acquired Barletta, the fastest growing boat company in the fastest growing recreational boating segment.

2023:

As we look to sustainability and electrification, WGO acquired the premier lithium-ion battery solutions provider, Lithionics Battery.
