Waste Reduction
Goal - Zero Waste to Landfill by 2030
(90% diversion rate)
We know that sending wastes to landfills has a significant negative impact on the climate. According to research conducted by the USEPA, landfills are one of the largest producers of methane gas, which is one of the most detrimental types of greenhouse gases on the environment. Winnebago Industries set the target to achieve a “zero waste to landfill” status at each of its manufacturing location by 2030. This means that we need to eliminate 90% of waste currently being sent to landfill in less than 10 years.
Wastes that are currently generated at Winnebago Industries include metal, wood, cardboard, mixed paper, plastics and glass. Many of these types of wastes are easily recyclable. However, when municipal recycling services are not available for specific items, we explore options to contract vendors and our local communities to repurpose or recycle those materials. The scope of our recycling program includes business, manufacturing, R&D, and packaging.
